November is National Native American Heritage Month, a time to recognize and honor the rich histories, cultures, traditions, and contributions of Native American and Alaska Native peoples.
For the Zillah School District, this month also provides an important opportunity to learn more about the Indigenous peoples of our region and the history, culture, sovereignty, and continuing contributions of the Yakama Nation.
Throughout November, we encourage students, staff, families, and community members to deepen their understanding of Native American history and contemporary Native communities. Learning about Tribal nations is important not only during Native American Heritage Month, but throughout the year.

Learning Throughout the Year
National Native American Heritage Month provides an opportunity to celebrate, learn, and reflect, but Native American history and culture are an important part of learning throughout the entire year.
Zillah School District is proud to encourage learning that strengthens understanding of the history, sovereignty, cultures, and continuing contributions of Native peoples in Washington and in our local region.
