School Safety Message from Superintendent Burge

Dear Families,

Like you, we are shocked and deeply saddened by the news of the shooting at Robb Elementary School in Texas on Tuesday. We share in the heartbreak we are all feeling for the families who have lost a loved one due to this senseless act of violence.

School should and must be a place where students feel completely safe and secure. We continue to work with our local law enforcement and fire department on safety protocols and procedures.  Our focus is always on the safety of our students and staff in the Zillah School District.  We have scheduled meetings with our administrative team, counselors, local law enforcement, and fire department.  Each school has building safety teams and evaluate building specific items on an ongoing basis.

We know that children and teens will process this news in different ways. Counselors are available at each of our school buildings to assist students who may need some extra support. We strongly encourage any students to stop by the counseling office at any time.

As always, we encourage students and staff if they see something to say something to the proper people in the buildings.  If something doesn’t seem quite right error on the side of letting someone know so potential issues may be prevented.

Please join us in keeping the students, staff, and families of the Uvalde Consolidated Independent School District in our thoughts at this time.

Sincerely,

Doug Burge

Zillah School District Superintendent
