Shelter in Place Drill. On Friday, Nov. 21st during 1st period,  ZHS is conducting a shelter in place drill.  At that time, we will explain to our students that if there is ever an emergency situation in which we do not evacuate, but are required to do a shelter-in-place (to protect against chemical fumes, smoke from fires, etc) then the following protocol will take place.
  1. Staff and students will be alerted by intercom and announce that a shelter-in-place is happening.
  2. Main fans need to be turned off immediately
  3. If an event happens during class, students and staff remain in the class.
  4. If an event happens during a transition time, students report to the last class that they were in.
  5. Staff close and lock all windows and doors.
  6. Doors and windows need to be sealed off with tape
  7. All students and staff stay in designated areas until an "all-clear" have been given by local officials.  At that time, quickly air out the building by opening all doors and windows, and turning on the air conditioning or heater.
  8. Normal activity will resume as soon as possible
The purpose of doing this on Friday, Nov. 21st will be informational for the students, explaining the protocol and what is expected if we ever have to do a shelter in place.  Once staff have explained the protocol to students, they will continue on with the regular class lesson. If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Torres.

Course Offerings 2010:  Students, Parents and community members are invited to review the current course offerings catalog at www.zillahschools.org/ZHS/courses.htm .  If you have suggestions for additions or changes to the offerings for the 2009-10 school year you will have until January 9, 2009 to submit your suggestions.  Send any questions, comments or suggestions to our principal Mr. Mike Torres (torres_m@zsd.wednet.edu) 1602 2nd Avenue, Zillah, WA 98953-9682.  While we can not promise that staffing, programs, budget or facilities will always be able to accommodate your requests, please be assured that each response will be considered.
