GEAR UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate Programs) is a program for designated districts and schools in Washington state to promote college awareness and readiness for middle and high school students. The project focuses on Educational Programs for students and the Collaborative for Instructional Development for educators.

The GEAR-UP Program Grant for the Zillah School District is currently active at Zillah High School for the cohort class of 2012.

ZHS is part of the University of Washington GEAR-UP Consortium  The University of Washington State GEAR UP Project, funded in 1999 by a federal grant from the U. S. Department of Education (DOE), is committed to the DOE’s goals and objectives, which are to:

  • Increase the academic performance and preparation of GEAR UP students for post-secondary education.
  • Increase the rate of high school graduation and participation in post-secondary education for GEAR UP students.
  • Increase GEAR UP students’ and their families’ knowledge of options for post-secondary education, preparation, and financing.
  • Enhance school academic and curricular reforms, including professional development for educators of low-income students.

The ZHS Newsletter and the ZHS Daily Bulletin are just two of the methods we use to keep students, parents and community informed about GEAR-UP.
