Notes:

1)      Students on IEP must submit all schedule change requests directly to Mr. Torres for approval.

2)      There is No Freshmen Add/Drop; however if an inappropriate placement was made, please contact Mr. Torres, for options.

3)      Focus on Fall Semester first.  We will have additional add/drop sessions in October and January for Winter and Spring semesters

4)      Review class descriptions, graduation requirements, recommended scheduling, etc. before a change request.

5)      Normally all students complete 2 semesters (A and B) of English, Math, Science and Social Studies each year. You CANNOT drop a graduation requirement without adding it for another period.

6)      Aid Positions: Are limited to 1 period a semester for Juniors and Seniors. (Form available from staff members).

Closed Classes: At this time heading into registration we have posted a list of closed classes at www.zillahschools.org/ZHS/ZHSclosedclasses .  This is done to help students needing to add/drop or adjust schedules.  Realize that status of classes can change within a minute, but the website will only be updated at the end of each day during add/drop.  The most accurate posting will be on the guidance center bulletin board.  Also realize as add/drop begins, there may be more room in currently closed classes, so just keep checking.  Also things will adjust greatly in the winter and spring semesters once students start making decisions on how to fill holes left after their pre-registration requests were filled.

EMAIL Add/Drop Option:  Students in grades 10, 11 or 12 may download forms from the ZHS website and submit them via email to Mr. Griffin at griffin_j@zsd.wednet.edu.  Students who use this option must:

1.    Complete the form and either attach it as an MS Word document or copy and paste it into the email.

2.    Consult the master schedule page and review the current open/closed class chart posted on line at

3.     Submit their requests during the above posted Add/Drop times.

    * Students must have completed registration at ZHS before any Add/Drop will be considered.

    * Email requests will be handled on a first received first accepted basis.

    * Incomplete or inaccurate emailed forms will be disregarded and returned.

    * No “Wait Lists” will be accepted.

    * Classes that require permission (such as honors or audition based) require teacher permission before processing.  It is up to the student to seek the teacher permission to enroll when required.

*Students enrolled in special programs and served on an IEP must have their resource room teacher’s approval to change schedules and may only adjust their fall schedule during August.

Freshmen Orientation and Registration:

Monday August 24, 2009
Our annual ZHS orientation day is Monday August 24.  All students promoted from ZMS in June who will be joining ZHS as the class of 2013 are to attend Orientation and Registration from 7:00-11:00 am in the ZHS Performing Arts Center (PAC).

All newly admitted students to ZHS are also invited to attend this program.  Parents are encouraged to spend the first half hour with students to help them properly complete the registration paper work.

The orientation program allows new students to complete registration paperwork, learn about ZHS rules and operations, tour the campus and meet with first semester teachers in a mini-schedule.  The focus of this day is to help students make a smooth transition to ZHS, reduce stress and help eliminate confusion for their first day of school Thursday August 27.

We ask students to report to the Performing Arts Center (PAC) prior to 7:00 am to begin check in and be assigned to an orientation group. The students will receive an agenda for the day, school year paperwork and information.  Students will need to know emergency contact names, phone numbers, addresses, parent work phones and addresses, and parent email addresses for the information sheet updates.  Parents are asked to stay and assist with this paperwork.

The orientation program will include:

  • ZHS rules, regulations-Handbook orientation
  • Getting Involved: Learn how to become active in ASB, clubs, class, groups, functions.
  • Library and Technology: Services and procedures, expectations, ZHS Web Page.
  • Planning for Success: Guidance services, graduation requirements, PEARLS
  • Leopard Speak: Freshman survival tips, Leopard glossary, traditions, etc
  • Your First Day: expectations, preparing for school, schedules, support staff services
  • Eligibility for Athletics & Activities: Expectations, codes, rules, eligibility, school discipline
  • Misc. Leopard Spots: Office and attendance procedures, lockers, buses, lunch time, check in/out, miscellaneous questions
  • ZHS Tour of  Campus
  • ZHS Schedule of Classes
  • ZHS Mini schedule to map out your first day on campus

Students will receive their class schedules and will attend their first day classes, periods 1 through 5 on a mini schedule.  This will give them a head start to the year allowing them to find their classes, meet their teachers, and receive information about the expectations in the new classes.

The day will conclude at approximately 11:00 am.  Students may be picked up to go home, to attend practice or return to the office to complete any paper work, pay fees, and get further information.

Students who cannot attend the orientation are asked to call the ZHS office before August 14 to make arrangements to complete registration paperwork.
