For Classes 2013-14. Students must meet competency/proficiency standards in Reading, Writing and Math* , earn a Certificate of Academic Achievement (CAA) or Certificate of Individual Achievement (CIA) in order to earn a high school diploma For students in Classes 2013-14 they are required to pass only 1 of the Math EOC's either Algebra or Geometry.
For Classes 2015 and beyond. Students must meet competency/proficiency standards in Reading, Writing, Math EOC's (Algebra & Geometry) and Science EOC (Biology), earn a Certificate of Academic Achievement (CAA) or Certificate of Individual Achievement (CIA) in order to earn a high school diploma
CAA Options/Alternatives from the OSPI Website: Students must take the HSPE at least once before accessing these options. The Collection of Evidence and the HSPE Grades Comparison options have additional requirements. Go to www.k12.wa.us/assessment/CAAoptions/default.aspx to review the official requirements. Briefly the three CAA Options are: 1) College Admission Test Scores: Students may use their scores on the SAT and/or ACT examinations to show they have key skills.
2) Collection of Evidence: Students compile a set of classroom work samples with the help of a teacher. Collections for students in Career and Technical Education programs can include work from their program and other classes. 3) HSPE/Grades Comparison: A student’s grades in math courses and/or English courses are compared with the grades of students who took the same courses AND passed the HSPE. This option is available to students in their senior year.
