*For students in Classes 2011-12 who did not pass the HSPE/EOC Math, they may still earn a diploma (but not a CAA) by completing 4.0 credits in Math or attempting alternatives (ACT, SAT, COE) to show proficiency

For students in Classes 2013-14 they are required to pass only 1 of the Math EOC's either Algebra or Geometry.

For Classes 2015 and beyond. CAA Options/Alternatives from the OSPI Website: Students must take the HSPE at least once before accessing these options. The Collection of Evidence and the HSPE Grades Comparison options have additional requirements. Go to www.k12.wa.us/assessment/CAAoptions/default.aspx to review the official requirements.  Briefly the three CAA Options are:

1) College Admission Test Scores: Students may use their scores on the SAT and/or ACT examinations to show they have key skills.

Eligibility requirements: To access this option, the student must have taken the high school HSPE at least once. To meet these criteria, a student must have sat for and generated a scale score during the administration of the HSPE. Scores from these tests may be used if the student took the tests before or after taking the high school HSPE.

Required Scores: Students may use their reading, writing, or mathematics scores on the SAT or ACT to show they have key knowledge and skills. The State Board of Education has approved the following minimum scores students must earn:

Mathematics:  SAT:  470     ACT:  19
Reading:         SAT:  350     ACT:  13
Writing:          SAT:  380     ACT:  15

2) Collection of Evidence: Students compile a set of classroom work samples with the help of a teacher. Collections for students in Career and Technical Education programs can include work from their program and other classes.

3) HSPE/Grades Comparison: A student’s grades in math courses and/or English courses are compared with the grades of students who took the same courses AND passed the HSPE. This option is available to students in their senior year.

Eligibility: Students must have taken the HSPE at least once and met any applicable attendance and remediation requirements in their Student Learning Plan. The school district, however, may waive the attendance and/or remediation criteria for special, unavoidable circumstances. To meet the HSPE testing criterion, a student must have sat for and generated a scale score during the administration of the HSPE. In addition, students must be in their senior year, have a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher, and there must be six or more students in the comparison cohort.
