MEMBERSHIP

Each school year following the completion of the first semester, ZHS students are inducted into the ZHS Chapter of NHS if they meet the national and local criteria.  Membership in the ZHS Chapter of NHS is a privilege, not an entitlement.  The membership selection process acknowledges not only high academic standards of courses and GPA but also service, leadership, character and citizenship. A fair and equitable evaluation of all candidates will be conducted by the ZHS faculty committee and only those candidates who meet the highest standards will be inducted into membership.  To be eligible for active membership in ZHS Chapter National Honor Society a student must:

1.      Be a member in good standing of the ZHS ASB.
2.      Be on track to follow the Honors Diploma plan for their grade level.
3.      Demonstrate a history of Scholarship which includes cumulative GPA criteria for admission by grade level:
          Sophomore candidates 3.75 or higher
          Junior candidates 3.60 or higher
          Senior candidates 3.50 or higher
4. Demonstrate a history of:
Leadership in school and community and
Exemplary character and citizenship
5. Have a desire to maintain and expand a high level of scholarship, service, leadership, character and citizenship while at ZHS.

Candidates who meet the minimum criteria may apply for membership.  The ZHS Chapter will follow the selection guidelines for membership as stated in the National Constitution.

The membership application will be reviewed by a faculty committee as outlined in the NHS constitution.  The faculty committee will then recommend to the advisor those candidates who meet the high standards of the NHS for induction into the organization.

All candidates for membership who submit a completed application will be given written notice of their membership status at the conclusion of the evaluation process.

Late or incomplete complete membership applications will be rejected without committee review.

Students who apply but not inducted into the ZHS Chapter of NHS following the first semester, may apply again the next cycle if they continue to meet the minimum membership application criteria.
